DHEA-S is the sulfated form of DHEA, the precursor of testosterone and estrogen. Many hirsute women have elevated DHEA-S with levels of other androgens within reference ranges. Dexamethasone supression of DHEA-S can be used to differentiate tumors from adrenal hyperplasia.
