Latent tuberculosis infection is a non communicable asymptomatic condition
which might develop into overt Tuberculosis within months or years. This test measures cell mediated immune response to antigens simulating the mycobacterial proteins. It is an indirect measure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex latent infection and active disease. It is usually negative in individuals vaccinated with Mycobacterium bovis BCG. A positive result should always be confirmed by further diagnostic evaluation.
