This test is used as an aid in the evaluation of liver function, evaluation of liver function changes before the development of more advanced clinical signs such as icterus, an aid in the evaluation of hepatic dysfunction because of chemical/ environmental injuries, an indicator of hepatic histological improvement in chronic hepatitis C patients on interferon therapy, and an indicator for intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.
