Infectious Mononucleosis is a viral disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) that affects the reticuloendothelial system and has a broad spectrum of clinical presentations. Monospot test, a form of the heterophile antibody test,is used for the rapid screening of infectious mononucleosis. The test may indicate that a person has a typical case of infectious mononucleosis, but does not confirm the presence of EBV infection. Results should be correlated with clinical and hematological findings.
